Programmed by dance artists Olga Barrios, Rachana Joshi and Samantha Sutherland, this highly anticipated late-night dance series returns to The Citadel October 3, 4, 5, 2024. Performances begin at 10PM EDT.
Olga Barrios is a multi-award-winning choreographer and dancer, and has collaborated with theatre, music, and dance companies as well as part of multidisciplinary projects in Canada, the USA and Colombia. She is the co-artistic director of Vanguardia Dance Projects, created in Canada in 2008. She holds an MFA in dance from York University.
Olga is originally from Bogotá, Colombia and is currently working on exchange projects between Colombia and Canada. As an arts educator, she has extensive experience working in Montreal, Hamilton, Kitchener, Toronto, New Jersey and diverse cities across Colombia. Her most recent creations are Dreaming in Blue (an underwater dance video), Mestiza (a solo work for site specific and stage presented at Night Shift 2021), Hybrid Women (Vanguardia Dance, creation for site specific and film). Works currently in development are Conversations, a collaboration between Vanguardia and Aanmitaagzi North Bay, A Flor de Pelo (Hairy Stories) in Colombia and Memories of Water Projects (interdisciplinary dance video). “I consider the arts a basic link in the process of building community and society.” www.olgabarrios.com
Rachana Joshi is a dance artist, teacher and choreographer based in Tkaronto. She completed her Bharatanatyam arangetram under the tutelage of Lata Pada in 2017. In 2019, she graduated from York University’s B.F.A program in Dance with honors and received training in Limon and Graham modern techniques through the program.
Rachana is currently focused on broadening her choreographic skills by creating her own dance works and building multidisciplinary artistic collaborations for the future. She is the co-artistic director of Kala Dance Collective, an organization committed to amplifying the voices and work of classically trained Indian diasporic dancers.
Samantha is a contemporary dance artist, choreographer, and teacher based in Tkaronto. Her ancestry is Ktunaxa and Scottish. She is a graduate of the Arts Umbrella Dance Diploma Program. Samantha has been choreographing works since 2021 and has presented in festivals across Turtle Island.
Some include the Matriarchs Uprising Festival by O.Dela Arts with presentations in Vancouver and at the National Arts Centre, Sharing the Stage with The National Ballet of Canada, Night Shift by Citadel + Compagnie and Fall for Dance North, dance: made in canada, and Weesageechak Begins to Dance. She is currently an Artistic Associate with O.Dela Arts.
Helin Gungoren is a stage manager and arts administrator based in Toronto with a focus on dance, festivals and events. Some companies she has worked with/for include adelheid, Aeris Körper, Canadian Stage, Citadel + Compagnie, Dance Arts Institute (formerly School of Toronto Dance Theatre), The Mint Agency, Pencil Kit Productions, Political Movement, princess productions, Soulpepper Academy, Syreeta Hector Dance, and TIFF. She received her BFA in Performance Production from TMU’s School of Performance.
A Toronto native, Marianna Rosato received her BFA as a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University – where she now teaches Dance Stage Management. Marianna spent three years as the assistant stage manager for Toronto Dance Theatre before working as a freelance SM in Toronto.
During that time she stage managed works for Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Tiger Princess Dance Projects, Adelheid Dance Projects, BoucharDanse, Blue Ceiling Dance, the Older & Reckless series for Moonhorse Dance Theatre, the National Ballet School of Canada, the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and many others. Outside of dance, Marianna spent 11 seasons as the Production Stage Manager for Mainstage Theatre Company. In 2014, Marianna began stage managing for Citadel + Compagnie, and after receiving a Metcalf internship, became the company’s Production Stage Manager in 2017.
He began working professionally in the industry since his graduation from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2019. Eli joined the Citadel team in 2021.
Emilie Trimbee is a Toronto based Lighting Designer.
