Recipient of 3 Dora Mavor Moore Awards (Dance Division) – Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Production
The tragic tale of Sex Dalmatian, the canine business mogul we love to hate (or, love to love, whatever gnaws your bone!). Through dance theatre glam drama, we romp through the twisted hellscape of the wellness industry, the heartbreak industry and the insides of our own brains. Leash up to experience the many sides of Sex Dalmatian, her too eager assistant, Amalia, and her psychosexually charged arch nemesis, Mr. Meeks, as they shove heavy feelings into bizarre containers while shining a humorous light on some of the darker corners of the collective consciousness.
Approximate run time is 75 minutes.
Alyssa Martin (she/her) is a choreographer making dancetheatre in Tkaronto. She uses an absurdist, joy-based approach to understand the more pickled corners of the psyche through homemade spectacle.Read more + Read less -
Blurring dance, theatre and comedy from an anti-patriarchal perspective, she founded a company called Rock Bottom Movement in 2012. Their works play with irreverent winks at modern dance and have been shared in seasons and festivals ranging in size throughout the country and abroad. She has been commissioned to create new work for Toronto Dance Theatre, The National Ballet of Canada (MicroCommission), Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Toronto Metropolitan University and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She’s worked in residence at The Banff Centre, Canadian Stage and The Stratford Festival. Outside of the dance world, Alyssa has brought her psychedelic image-based choreographic process to theatre, musical theatre and opera productions across the country including with The Stratford Festival, Tarragon Theatre, Talk is Free Theatre, theatrecorps and FAWN Chamber Collective. She guest teaches often, leading creative workshops as well as her NONDancer workshops. Her recent works include; Sex Dalmatian, DINO, Bin Chicken and hollow mountain. She’s been awarded multiple Dora Mavor Moore Awards, The Bulmash-Siegel Award for New Creation at Tarragon, The Jack McAllister Award for Alumni Achievement and the Canadian Stage Award for Direction. In all her work, she hopes to offer unbridled romps through cheeky explosions of our consciousness while deeply considering the audiences, communities and collaborators who come to play.

When we called Sex Dalmatian, the woman dog herself, and let her know she was getting an encore, her eyes welled up, she coughed on her cigarette and then she told us to get to work.
We’ve spent the past year showing Sex Dalmatian to audiences in different cities around the country, and we’re so thrilled to bring our dance play back to its home. The work is best enjoyed among friends, lovers or enemies. We can’t wait to suck you right up into Sex Dalmatian’s world.
