Meet the Artists
Alyssa Martin
Choreographer
Alyssa Martin is a Tkaronto/Toronto-based choreographer known for her signature tongue-in-cheek approach to modern/contemporary dance. Martin is the founder and Artistic Director of Rock Bottom Movement, a company dedicated to the ongoing creation of absurd dancetheatre through their anti-patriarchal approach to comedy and tenderness.
Read more +Their recent works include Big Time Miss, commissioned by Fall for Dance North, and Sex Dalmatian produced in collaboration with Citadel + Compagnie. As an independent choreographer, she has created new works for companies including The National Ballet of Canada (Desperate Drama of Red and Sugar Water), and Toronto Dance Theatre (Bin Chicken) as well as independent artists Susie Burpee and Linnea Swan. Her penchant for transdisciplinary exploration has inspired collaborations that span theatre, circus, film, musical theatre and opera including work at The Stratford Festival, Coalmine Theatre and Tarragon theatre. Her choreography has been recognized with multiple awards including Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding Choreography and Production and the Canadian Stage Award for Direction. In all she does, she seeks to foster an environment where irreverence, humour, and individuality flourish.
