The Importance of this Remount

After working with Jean-Pierre Perreault in Montreal, Citadel + Compagnie’s Artistic Director Laurence Lemieux has long held the desire to share his work with audiences in Toronto. She is now taking on this exciting task with the remount of Perreault’s masterwork Nuit, which will be performed this June as a part of the 2023 Luminato Festival.

In making this repertoire available to a new generation of artists, in a new city and new dance context, Lemieux feels it is imperative that the process of remounting moves beyond the learning of material and that it makes room for the artists embodying it – their experiences, their stories and their artistry. A sentiment shared by Perreault himself, as he felt that in remounting works from the past you are in fact acknowledging the forward motion of time and ensuring the sustainability of the art form.

“The interpretation given by a performer is not ephemeral, because often it leaves an indelible mark on the memory and the soul of the spectator… Many performers have danced NUIT over the years and every one of them has brought and left a little of themselves.” – Jean-Pierre Perreault

Citadel + Compagnie, needs your support to make this extraordinary work come to life, once again. Our fundraising goal is set at $75,000, of which $14,900 has already been raised. These funds help support the recreation of Nuit’s iconic set – an integral component of this work. Citadel + Compagnie is grateful for any amount you are able contribute towards this remount of Nuit.
